Replacement Pickups for Rickenbacker® Bass

Button-top Bridge Pickup

Late 70's style Classic Rick Button TopTM Bridge Pickup

For Bridge (Treble) position on 4001 and 4003 Bass instruments.
(custom wound upon request)

This replacement pickup is an accurate replacement having the unique tone of the late 70's era bridge pickups which used the round rivet-head poles. I make each one by hand in my shop, this pickup is built with the same materials and methods as original pickups with our improved bobbin core which retains the traditional Rick tone but gives you much more of it.

Scatter-wound with #44 wire on hand-made FR4 bobbin cores. I use better magnets than the weak OEM compound-rubber magnet, I use individual magnets for each pole piece which allows for better string balance and tone articulation and my customers tell me the difference is amazing.

I use a much better wire-lead method that does away with the nasty, bare, un-shielded, leads and solder joints under the pickups (ie; OEM wiring), my bridge pickups have the signal wires shielded entirely to the pickup coil for the lowest possible stray hum/noise.

Late 60's "transition" style Classic Rick Flat TopTM Bridge Pickup

For Bridge (Treble) position on 4001 and 4003 Bass instruments.
(custom wound upon request)

This replacement pickup is an accurate replacement having the unique tone of the 60's era bridge pickup which used the pan head slotted screw poles. Our Flat-top poles give the pickup the tone of the early pickup which is a little different response than the later button-top pickup. I make each one by hand in my shop, this pickup is built with the same materials and methods as original pickups with our improved bobbin core which retains the traditional Rick tone but gives you much more of it.

Scatter-wound with #44 wire on hand-made FR4 bobbin cores. I use better magnets than the weak OEM compound-rubber magnet, I use individual magnets for each pole piece which allows for better string balance and tone articulation my customers tell me the difference is amazing. With this pickup your Rick can finaly keep up with modern bass pickups, but with plenty of that classic Rick tone.

I use a much better wire-lead method that does away with the nasty, bare, un-shielded, leads and solder joints under the pickups (ie; OEM wiring), my bridge pickups have the signal wires shielded entirely to the pickup coil for the lowest possible stray hum/noise.

4004 Bridge Pickup Set

The RB4004T pickups are sold as a set, they are an upgrade for the 4004 Bass which has a reputaion for it's extremly lame use of a neck pickup assembly for the bridge pickup, and the bad string balance problem associated with doing that, the common 4004 owners montra is: "what were they thinking?".

Internally these pickups are built as a 4 pole pickup core just like a standard button-top pickup but the spacing on them has been widened to more closely suit the string spacings on a 4004 bass. Because of this wider spacing the traditional "ring" type covers will not work on the bridge pickup as the outter pole piece location conflicts with that type of cover, be we have found these work well with both OEM (RIC) "Toaster" covers, and our own "Dual-Slot Classic-T" covers work very well with this pickup core design.

When you purchase this set you would either send us your OEM covers so we can install our pickup cores, or if you do not have your own OEM (RIC) "Toaster" covers, we can provide our "Dual-Slot Classic-T" covers as a separate accessory and service for a small additional cost. This is done so as not to infringe upon (RIC) "trade dress" asertions for their "Toaster" style pickups.

Because of the assembly needed these cannot be sold as a bare pickup core (for DIY) like the RB76N below, we must do the installation and provide the baseplate modifications needed, it's the only way we can provide our limited lifetime warranty.

This set with it's wider spacing also works great on Fender P-Bass and J-Bass with some modifcation to the body and pickguard/scratchplate (ie; routing).

Late 70's style Classic Button TopTM Neck Pickup

For Neck (Bass) position on 4001 and 4003 Bass instruments.
(custom wound upon request)

This replacement pickup is an accurate replacement neck pickup in the style of the late 70's era pickups which used the round rivet-head poles. I make each one by hand in my shop, this pickup is built with the same materials and methods as original pickups with our improved bobbin core which retains the traditional Rick tone but gives you much more of it.

Scatter-wound with #44 wire on a hand-made FR4 bobbin core, I use individual ceramic magnets for each pole piece which allows for better string balance and tone articulation my customers tell me the difference is amazing, your Rick can keep-up with modern bass instruments, no more weak/lame output, and plenty of classic Rick tone.

When you order a pickup with the aftermarket chrome cover I assemble it with a much better wire-lead method that minimizes the bare un-shielded part under the pickup (ie; OEM construction), to get the lowest possible stray hum/noise.

Standard replacement wind is 7.6K -to- 8.2K DCR, or if you wish I will custom wind to your spec at no extra charge.

This pickup fits inside your original OEM chrome cover/backplate assembly, to install new core you first remove the four corner screws/nuts from your chrome cover/backplate, then remove your old pickup, replace with new pickup, and re-assemble chrome cover/backplate assembly. Alternatively, if your order your pickup with the aftermarket chrome cover, this pickup will be delivered completely assembled with lead wire ready to solder into your control cavity.

Pickup Covers

When you order our neck pickup, you can get them bare (no cover) so you can install them (DIY) into your OEM covers (or send us the cover and we will install our pickup at no charge), or you can choose one of our aftermarket covers shown below.

Classic-R
(RB7N-CVR)

Our Classic-R aftermarket replacement pickup covers function and look very nice, the lip on the inside edge of the face on the open-covers (where the pickup core shows through) is slightly wider than the lip of an OEM open-cover, this effects the look only, functionally it actually offers slightly better shielding.

Classic-T
(RB6N-CVR)

Our Dual-Slot Classic-T aftermarket cover includes our own unique trade-dress which features color, this attractive look unmistakeably sets our cover apart from an OEM cover, ours having two vertical (colored) stripes under the chrome cover, exclusively from Classic Amplification. (email your color choice when placing your order)

Silver, White, and FireRed colors shown above

Each cover includes: (1) top cover, (1) bottom plate, (4) screws, and (4) nuts. You re-use your original (2) mounting screws/nuts that came with your instrument.
